Program Notes

Nine Parts of Two is an improvisatory solo piano work that draws inspiration from nine diptychs created by Boston-based architect William O’Brien. The series ranges from Renaissance-influenced woodwork details to modern minimalistic tree houses. The multi-dimensional quality and sheer beauty of each image allows for a similarly expansive approach to musical time. This piece was created at the American Academy in Rome, where my husband and I spent the year meeting wonderful artists like Liam, which allowed for such collaborations to take place.
