Program Notes

Starting with a hymn-like six-note diatonic motive, Missing Absence explores harmonic, timbral and textural interplay on the solo organ. The piece unfolds gradually and soberly, with some passages sounding improvisatory. The piece commemorates lives lost during the Paris terrorist attack in November 2015. It received its premiere at the Notre Dome Cathedral in 2016, performed by my dear friend and colleague Mark Steinbach, to whom the music is dedicated.
