Program Notes

The inability to retrieve very early childhood memories makes our parents’ stories about our own childhoods fascinating and moving experiences. They can take on the quality of fiction and myth, even if they stem from a past that we cannot remember. Human selective memory can protect or harm us from many dark sides of personal history yet also forbids us from revisiting forever vanished precious moments. This piece takes songs and outdoor games from my childhood life as inspiration and evokes a spirit of innocence and joy from these reminiscences.
